Project Description
GeoTestimonios is a living border-community storytelling project that reappropriates personal experiences through testimonies and literary narratives about life in the El Paso-Juárez border region. This work is a collaboration between border poet and author Gris Muñoz and academic and digital humanist Sylvia Fernández Quintanilla. It aims to record and preserve the lives, experiences, and voices of women from a variety of racial and ethnic backgrounds living in a particular border area affected by gentrification, lack of mobility, urban policies and changing ecosystems. It will increase awareness of the experiences of women living in the border region as a way to heal and create a trans-border community of solidarity. The project includes an interactive map and digital exhibit of the border region, allowing users to access partly through points in space and in different formats stories of the two border women creating this project, as well as other storytellers who record their own stories in the language/format with which they feel most comfortable. Currently, the project creators are writing their own stories and planning a series of thematic workshops to collect the stories of other women from the El Paso-Juárez border region. After collecting and formatting this data, the website, digital map and exhibit will be made available to the public.
GeoTestimonios es un proyecto narrativo de comunidades fronterizas que reapropia experiencias personales a través de testimonios y narrativas literarias sobre la vida en la región fronteriza de El Paso-Juárez. Este trabajo es una colaboración entre la poeta y autora fronteriza Gris Muñoz y la académica y humanista digital Sylvia Fernández Quintanilla. Su objetivo es registrar y preservar las vidas, experiencias y voces de mujeres de una variedad de orígenes raciales y étnicos que viven en un área fronteriza particularmente afectada por la gentrificación, la limitación de movilidad, la violencia de género, las políticas urbanas y los ecosistemas cambiantes. Este proyecto impulsará el pensamiento crítico de las experiencias de las mujeres que viven en la región fronteriza como una forma de sanar y crear una comunidad transfronteriza de solidaridad. El proyecto incluye un mapa interactivo y exhibición digital de la región fronteriza, permitiendo a los usuarios acceder en parte a través de puntos en el espacio y en diferentes formatos a las historias de las dos mujeres fronterizas que crean este proyecto, así como a otras narradoras que registran sus propias historias en el idioma/ formato con el que se sientan más cómodas. Actualmente, las creadoras del proyecto están escribiendo sus propias historias y planificando una serie de talleres temáticos para desarrollar un proceso de crear y compartir historias entre mujeres de la región fronteriza de El Paso-Juárez. Después de recopilar y estructurar estos datos, el sitio web, el mapa digital y la exposición estarán disponibles para el público.
